Robert L. Mauss D.O.

Dr. Mauss is a native of Adams County, Pennsylvania.  He grew up helping on his family's small farm and exploring the outdoors. After graduating from Biglerville High School, he continued his education at Shippensburg University.  Although graduating from there with a teaching degree in mathematics, he eventually found that his professional interests lay elsewhere.

While living in Pittsburgh, PA, he met an osteopathic physician (a DO) who introduced him to osteopathic medicine.  After researching the philosophy of osteopathic medicine, he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.

The osteopathic philosophy appealed to him because of its holistic view of the patient which recognize's body-mind connections.  It  focus's on treating the the causes of a patients' medical problem and not just focusing on the symptoms.  He liked the idea of using osteopathic manipulation to correct the dysfunctions in the body.  Correction of these dysfunctions lead both,  to healing as well as possibly prevention of the development of further pain and disease.  Finally, he liked that osteopathic medicine offered patients an alternative to medications and surgery, which sometimes not only don't work, but can have unintended side effects.

After completing additional pre-med college course work in Pittsburgh, he was accepted to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for the graduating class of 2003. Upon completion of 4 years of medical school, he returned to central PA and completed his Family Practice residency at Memorial Hospital in York.

With his residency completed, a strong dedication to furthering his osteopathic education led him to Bangor, ME where he completed a fellowship in Neuromusculoskeletal  Medicine (NMM).  Here, he spent one full year studying anatomy, physiology and osteopathic concepts, as well as refining his skills in osteopathic manipulation.

In addition to completing the NMM fellowship, Dr. Mauss has also accumulated over 400 hours of specialized course work in osteopathic principles and manipulation.  This training is beyond what he was taught in osteopathic medical school.  He also has studied with 13 different experienced osteopathic physician-mentors over the last ten years, amounting to more than one year of additional guided hands-on training.
